Marta Cunningham has proven herself to an experienced actor and a prolific director for over two decades.
Over the last four years, Marta has worked as an adjunct professor in the film department at the prestigious ArtCenter as well as teaching advanced directing seminars at AFI. At these institutions, she cultivated specific techniques for directors to use when working with actors in streaming and film world.
In her workshops, through intensive, hands-on coaching, Marta provides resources to solve the "mystery" often plagued by directors working with actors. You will have your own set of tools to enhance your craft and have confidence to work with actors of any level or experience.
What Marta has learned from teaching at institutions is that there is a archaic method being taught to students that negates the interdependence between the director and the actor. Students aspiring-to-be-directors are taught about visually capturing the scene but not necessarily about performance.
Her goal is to give directors a space to explore, take risks, and learn how to succeed as creatives. Whether its topics related to preparation, finding authenticities, or troubleshooting on set, this workshop can help you set you up for success.

I began my acting career in the 90's.
It was an exciting time as an artist when there was a real push for Black actors to be in film and television for us and by us. The hope and spirit of this time lives with me still.
In my own acting career, class was my happy place, a safe space to play and be adventurous as an artist. I have studied various crafts and styles: Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, The Meisner Technique, Naturalistic, and even Improv with BATS Improve Theatre in San Francisco.
This actor's workshop will put the actor in the driver seat. Educating actors on how to build a career as an actor and maintain that career. Giving you insight on what tools are really necessary when you start working full time as an actor and what is no longer needed. Vigorous scene study as well as monologue work is a must to keep building on your craft but I will also be educating students what the true role of an actor is on a film or episodic show and it's not just nailing the part.
Look forward to diving in with you!
